Inside, the lock is on the upper right of the door. The transformer is mounted up above, and there's a button next to the door to release the lock. Dave, one of the other short-termers, helped me figure out how to wire it up and program it.
The teachers wanted more security, because they hear reports in the news of school shootings in other countries, and wanted to prevent someone like that from coming in while leaving access for kids to go in and out as needed. The problem is that the first thing the teachers did was teach the kids the code and showed them how to use the lock. So I don't think the code is going to be very secure. There is another classroom that's only accessible by going out this door and into another exterior door, and as I was mounting this lock over a period of days, there were constantly kids going back and forth. So I think anyone who really wanted to get in would really have no problem getting in.I have to say, though, that the kids in this school (primarily Dutch kids -- they speak only Dutch and English -- Papiamentu is not allowed) are very polite, always saying 'excuse me' and 'thank you' and such.
And the teacher who seemed to be the one who ran the school -- Wilma (say 'Vilma') -- was a hoot. Goofy Dutch lady.
