This is in the very heart of Los Angeles. It's really tar. And it's bubbling. An active pit being excavated. You'd swear BP had something to do with this.... :)
I remember seeing this when we visited LA when I was a kid. It was one of the more exotic things that this NJ boy had seen up to that point. The California burgers with shredded lettuce and special sauce were an eye opener too. Ate as many as I could get my hands on. Probably where they got the idea for the Big Mac. :)
