This is what's left of the original church building, which fell in an earthquake. It was laid out with a floor plan like a cathedral, with a cross-shaped floor plan, and had a roof that was a series of domes. Pretty impressive what they built out here without any heavy equipment, in what was in the middle of the wilderness.
