Still Sunday

The little houses are slave houses from about 1850. They only stand about head-high, and the doors are about waist high. Slaves were used for labor in the salt pans.
A lighthouse and an old building.

Sunday afternoon I went on a drive around the south side of the island, which is flat. There are large salt pans there, where sea water is let in, and then the sun evaporates sea water, leaving behind the salt. This is really the only export on the island, and was one of its main features back in Dutch colonial times. Today it's owned by Cargill.
